Present, Past & Past Participle

Present

Use the present simple for habits and facts. I eat rice every day. She eats rice every day.

Simple past

Use the simple past for a finished time such as yesterday. I ate rice yesterday.

Past participle

The past participle is not a tense by itself. It works with a helper verb: has, have or had. I have eaten my lunch already. Say she has eaten, not she has ate.

Regular and irregular verbs

Regular verbs add -ed or -d with spelling changes: play, played; like, liked; study, studied; stop, stopped. Irregular verbs change in other ways: go, went, gone; put, put, put; be, was or were, been.
