Prepositions: place, time and movement

A preposition shows how one thing is related to another.

Place

in, on, under, above, between, behind, in front of, next to. The cat is under the table. The lamp is above the table.

Time

Use at for clock times and at night, on for days and dates, and in for months, years and in the morning, afternoon or evening. We have lunch at 12 o'clock. My party is on Saturday. Her birthday is in May.

Movement

into, out of, onto, off, across, through, towards. The dog ran into the house. The train went through the tunnel.
